POSITION:  U.S. Production Lead, Vegetable Seed

Although Nampa, Idaho is the preferred location, California or Washington could be potential locations if necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Successful seed production for all the crops in the US and Canada (20 different vegetable crops).

  • Selection, development and assessment of production suppliers (Growers / Tollers) when designing grower requirements and metrics.

  • Selection, development and assessment of production areas within US and Canada and designing requirements and metrics.

  • Selection, direction, development and assessment of production organization (50 people among Production Managers and Field Reps), designing job requirements and metrics for the production workforce.

  • Design, implementation and evaluation of models for production processes and their respective controls.

  • Continuous pursuit of innovation to gain efficiency, productivity and quality for the overall crop production process (20 different vegetable crops).

  • Budget control of operative expenses and develop Long Range Plans for Expenses, Production costs and Capital requirements (Capital Investment).

  • Maintain/develop communication externally with customers, vendors, growers, seed association groups and State and Federal Agriculture departments.

  • The role reports directly to the Seminis NAFTA Manufacturing director. This is a position with high visibility of the organization, working closely with various people at different levels within Manufacturing and other areas throughout the company.

  • This position will require a minimum of 30% travel.

Required skills/experience:

  • Analytical, agribusiness background, results oriented, people management experience and strong leadership and change management skills.

  • BS in Agronomic or Agribusiness related field and a minimum of 7 years of agriculture management (i.e. soil and seed science, general agriculture and farming practices, field technology) experience or MS and 5 years of experience.

  • Results orientation with knowledge of manufacturing leverage areas, such as safety, cost, reliability and quality.

  • Leadership capability, with a demonstrated ability to influence, coach, manage conflict and build relationships.

Desired skills/experience/attributes:

  • MBA or MS in agriculture. Agricultural background or experience in agronomy, agricultural business and/or seed sciences considered advantageous.

  • Ability to develop production growing areas throughout North America.

  • Experience with ISO 9001 and regulatory requirements in a production environment.

  • Experience with ES&H initiatives and implementation in field operations.
