Statement of special qualifications for the position
During my M. Sc (Ag) I worked on Genetic divergence and
character association studies in sunflower to select diverse
genotypes with broad spectrum of variability so that selection
could be adopted for identification of superior segregants for
the development of high yielding cultivars.
I worked on castor during my Ph D research programme and
acquainted myself with the conventional breeding programmes. I
was a participant of national seminar held in RARS, Palem and
presented two papers based on my post graduation programme.
Acquired good theoretical knowledge on Molecular Biology,
Molecular Markers, Marker Aided Selection and Quantitative
Genetics during my my Ph D programme
I was given a very good opportunity to teach under graduate
students in practical courses, during my post graduation. I
delivered three seminars during my post graduation studies and
the topics choosen were 1). Micro array technology 2). Genetic
basis for altering flowering response (behaviour) in cereals and
its commercial advantages and 3). Gene stacking in transgenic
plants.
As an Agricultural Consultant, in ANTWA, a Netherlands
financed/funded project for eight months. I acquired good
experience in teaching and organization of village based
training programmes and got very good chance of closely moving
with farmers and built a good rapport with the farming
community.
As a Plant Breeder in Sunflower at Vibha Agro tech ltd, learnt
about maintenance of parental lines, conducting hybrid trials
and demonstrations, maintaining pedigree records, varietal
purification, many A and R line conversion programmes, selection
of parents, making crosses and handling segregating populations
of sunflower and castor.
As Research Associate at ICRISAT in chickpea breeding involved
in the execution of field experiments and production of breeder
seed, participation in on-farm farmer-participatory research and
development activities related to seed systems, analysis of
experimental data and interpretation of results, preparation of
reports and papers for publication in the reputed journals.
