El sida es una enfermedad que actualmente afecta a unos 33 millones de personas en todo el mundo. Cada día, cerca de 5.700 fallecen a causa de esta enfermedad y al menos otras 7.000 se infectan con el virus, la mayoría de ellas en países subdesarrollados o en vías de desarrollo.

Paul Christou es investigador en mejora genética en la Universidad de Lleida y uno de los científicos que ha creado un tipo de semilla de maíz modificado genéticamente que produce una molécula capaz de evitar el contagio del sida, y que sin duda revolucionaría el mundo de la medicina.
